I KNOW HER SOUND, WHEN SHE STIRS IN THE NIGHT, SENDING BIRDS FLYING OUT, OVER LAND, CALLING WARNINGS IT'S AN OLD-FASHIONED TALE, OF HOW OCEANS PREVAIL, AND THE SEA WHEN SHE YAWNS IN THE MORNING ========== whistle along ========== NIGH ON 10 YEARS, I HAVE BEEN TENDING LONG, BURNING BEAMS BEARING OUT OVER WA-TERS(E) AND TURNING SUBTLE SEA, SOLDIER ON, FOR THE DARK WILL SOON BE GONE WITH THE SEA WHEN SHE YAWNS IN THE MORNING ========== whistle along ========== AND THE STRAIT LIES LONG, WHERE THE CURVE CHASES THE SUN AS A BLANKET - BLUE - RACES THE LIGHT I KNOW IT WON'T BE LONG, 'FOR THE FOGGY MORN' IS DONE WITH THE SEA WHEN SHE YAWNS IN THE MORNING AND THE SEA WHEN SHE YAWNS IN THE MORNING.

Stick a song inside your head And sing it to me one time, Cos i've been getting sick of land, Since who knows how long anyways I'll meet you there but i'll probably be late So cast off now and i'll navigate ALL AT SEA So beyond the sight of land That's where cold secrets gravitate And no matter your co-oords The sea will whisper anyways…cos it knows… (that) Night it comes and we might drown While singing on the bow, star-bored ALL AT SEA (leagues of sea-spray in the air, these lonely nights won't stutter our resolve) ALL AT SEA (underneath the canvas cloud the rolling green to keep us on the bay) Night it comes and we might drown While singing on the bow, star-bored ALL AT SEA (You and me for hours and days, the sight of land a figment on the brain) ALL AT SEA (underneath these deathly clouds, to keep us here will take a huge display) ALL AT SEA (and where we end up who could tell, but we are drifting on as we will again) ALL AT SEA (and again and again and again and again and again…) ALL AT SEA...

When you find your way in the eye of the storm, could never dream a more placid un-winters' day And though you could believe that it might come back soon, you wouldn't want to leave, for sake of breaking calm...so stay... Jim tried to make a break between the strait and shore, and heading west for sure he thought he spied a port But tonight...(tonight tonight tonight).... we'll see our lonely lives...(for what they are) It's alright...(tonight tonight tonight)... we'll drink inside the star (for what we are) I wish away the wishart's wait to seize the reins, this town in it's heyday...could be the finest part Forget the valley when the sea becomes the walls, that's when you'll know the end to all this mystery... So Tonight...(tonight tonight tonight)... we'll see the southern lights, for what they are... And the night (the night the night the night)... will usher in a slight and salty air before... death....

YOUR SHADOW 04:10
Your Shadow, over the Sante And i would walk the roads to you No-one else would ever do Don't know what, What i am doing Though i should have known it all along No-One else could sing these songs ----------------------------------------------------- But time, time can reveal The people you revere and hold them in the light to cast their shadows ----------------------------------------------------- Set down with, steadier people In one boom year they'll all be gone, As winter comes along There's smoke out, over the straits now and hell could reveal itself tonight how could we turn our backs to light ----------------------------------------------------- When space, space shows no shadow All is revered, and hovering to never be known human. OOH…OOH OOH OOH OOH OOHOOH...

SOMEWHERE 02:34
Somewhere, out on the sea bed the ocean is wailing, demanding the name and the title of the terrestrial, and present inhabitants, To warn of their methods, The warmings, the warnings, they're few and far between But listen, or miss them…go oooh... Elsewhere, under the osprey, the vents they are venting the freshest new specimens A sideways take on the viral, to take out the landlings, and earthen-bound bandits, In cycles, revival, we'll find our future form Sing blindly, our anthem…go ooh...
8.
Do you hear the sound, The sound of breaking backs which now resounds, in the shipyard All the tyranny of town, the gossip growing louder on the ground, where the creeks bear The weight of all that's come to pass right here, The passers-by all seem to disappear, And you might hear the ghosts of yester-year, If you can tune right in. And up inside the light, I can sing myself to sleep with all my might But come bedtime We'll be waking from the sound, surrounding no escape from all the white, It's astounding. No sleep for months and days, it could be years… and coupled by our consummated fears but we can try to find, the loneliest lanes away, and never will find our way home. There is no home for one who chooses not to hear, so… LISTEN! LISTEN! LISTEN! if you can't hear the ocean (then open up your ears) LISTEN! LISTEN! LISTEN! the small-town commotions (then open up your ears) LISTEN! LISTEN! LISTEN! and sing with your one voice, the only sound you own (then open up your ears) LISTEN! LISTEN! LISTEN! the small-time commotions… …They will wither, and turn into the talk that takes the town on the way down to depths of knowing that there's never a way out of here…and there's only one lane to choose…and only one way back home now…don't be afraid of what the future is…just LISTEN! LISTEN! LISTEN! if you don't know what's going on (then open up your ears) LISTEN! LISTEN! LISTEN! if you can't hear the earth vibrate (open up your ears) LISTEN! LISTEN! LISTEN!

Amos cried out in the dark; Said "it's time for us to leave, This old town has forced my hand, too many times." Amos cried out to himself; "It's too late for us to leave too many people on these streets, who know my crimes, and hear my cries." And i told him that i always would give him time. But he was over time, and we were losing mind. Amos cried into the black, up a beat and lonely trail, and started for the shore and out into the sound, a soul amongst the brine, never will be found we will join in time. and we will join in time cos we were over time, and we were over tired this town in which we tried, watch over every night We will all return, we will over time, we will all return as the ghost of Amos tells me now. that We will all return We will over time We will all return, and we will over time.

3 DAYS AWAY 02:26
Though only 'round the headland sail 3 DAYS AWAY (x2) My bonnie girl will (be)'gin to wail 3 DAYS AWAY (x2) The growth will grow, the rain will hail 3 DAYS AWAY (x2) But i'll reach port on starward sail 3 DAYS & ARRIVE IN THE MORNING Haul ashore at break of day 3 DAYS AWAY (x2) Haul the oars and hear me say 3 DAYS & ARRIVE IN THE MORNING My bonnie girl she wrote to me 3 DAYS AWAY (x2) The script it blew into the sea 3 DAYS AWAY (x2) Our guts will bloat, our backs might break 3 DAYS AWAY (x2) Tell her i'll be the odd year late 3 DAYS & ARRIVE IN THE MORNING So haul the oars to Belfast town 3 DAYS AWAY (x2) Haul the oars and hear me say 3 DAYS AWAY IN THE MORNING And Haul the oars to Annie's court 3 DAYS AWAY (x2) Draw a line between two ports 3 DAYS & ARRIVE IN THE MORNING Though only 'round the headland sail Three Days Away in the the morning

Who knows how long it's taken to be set And who are we to say then that it is But those birds appear here every single year And the ways from end to end appear quite clear Even facing for days endless conquering seas Sight of land will come and with it pain will ease And from coast the coast will guide from strait to sur Always onwards and around to that corner. ======================================= My dear departing one, i will return All At Sea for hours, then onwards to the stern With hungry dangered mouths at home to feed We'll reach beyond horizons' length and speed I would race you there if i could ever find Your only call, the voice the ties the bind And if we come to know that we have made a loss, You keep it warm 'cos i'll be on the horizon singing, crying my eyes out and… woo-ooh…woah…etc
12.
Keep on the Breeze, And i'll find our way through the islands, to the seven seas. No want to leave, but i'll find my way through the backwoods and to make me be at ease... I can stare into the eye of Fidalgo for days… And our faith in just ONE BUBBLE will be assured at the lake. Keep on the Breeze, I will send you all of my springness, through the falling leaves And i'll send you the warmth of my world, though the winter's long And beyond goodbyes we will be around as this goes on (and on, and on, and on, and...)

about

"small town tales of mythical PORTACORTES," is a collection of songs both historical and fictional, written and recorded between my hometown of Port Fairy and my surrogate hometown of Anacortes (from June-September 2008).
A first version was finished and installed as part of a gallery show at the end of my Artist in Residence at the now-defunct Department of Safety in Anacortes (September 2008), then re-mixed and packaged as a CD-R release in 2009 when i returned to play What The Heck Fest #8 in Anacortes.
